The programme provides talented young dancers from different parts of the country with a national platform where they can perform different dance styles under the guidance of professional choreographers known as Super Gurus.
Super Dancer premiered on 10 September 2016 on Sony Entertainment Television. The competition is designed to find young performers who have the potential to become the future of dance. Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Geeta Kapur have remained closely associated with the judging panel throughout the series, while Anurag Basu judged the first four chapters. As of 2026, five seasons or chapters of Super Dancer have been completed, with Chapter 5 producing the show’s first joint winners.

Super Dancer Season 1 Winner – Ditya Bhande
The first season of Super Dancer premiered on 10 September 2016 on Sony Entertainment Television.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Geeta Kapur and Anurag Basu formed the judging panel. Rithvik Dhanjani and Paritosh Tripathi handled the hosting duties.
After the auditions and mega auditions, 12 children entered the main competition. Each contestant was paired with a professional choreographer who became the contestant’s Super Guru.
Ditya Bhande from Mumbai emerged as the first winner of Super Dancer. She competed under the guidance of Ruel Dausan Varindani.
Yogesh Sharma, mentored by Vaibhav Ghuge, finished behind Ditya in the final standings.
Ditya became particularly popular for her energetic performances, expressions and hip-hop-influenced dancing.
The grand finale was held on 17 December 2016. Ditya received the Super Dancer trophy along with ₹15 lakh prize money.
Her victory established her as the first contestant to receive the programme’s title of “Dance Ka Kal.”
Super Dancer Season 2 Winner – Bishal Sharma
Super Dancer Chapter 2 premiered on 30 September 2017.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Geeta Kapur and Anurag Basu returned as judges. Rithvik Dhanjani remained associated with the hosting team, while Jay Bhanushali and Paritosh Tripathi were also associated with presentation duties during the season.
The second chapter expanded the competition and featured 14 contestants.
Bishal Sharma from Jorhat, Assam, emerged as the winner. His Super Guru was Vaibhav Ghuge.
Bishal became one of the most popular contestants of the season and received a huge number of audience votes during the final stage.
Ritik Diwakar, mentored by Pratik Utekar, finished as the first runner-up. Vaishnavi Prajapati and Akash Thapa were also among the finalists.
The grand finale was held on 24 March 2018.
Bishal received the Super Dancer trophy and ₹15 lakh prize money, while his Super Guru Vaibhav Ghuge also received a cash award.
Super Dancer Season 3 Winner – Rupsa Batabyal
Super Dancer Chapter 3 premiered on 29 December 2018.
The judging combination of Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Geeta Kapur and Anurag Basu continued for another season. Rithvik Dhanjani and Paritosh Tripathi returned as hosts.
The third chapter featured 16 contestants, making the main competition larger than the previous two editions.
Rupsa Batabyal from Kolkata emerged as the winner. She was mentored by choreographer Nishant Bhat.
Rupsa was only six years old during the competition but became one of the season’s most talked-about performers because of her expressions, confidence and ability to handle different dance styles.
Tejas Varma, mentored by Tushar Shetty, finished as runner-up.
Other finalists included Gourav Sarwan, Saksham Sharma and Jayshree Gogoi.
The grand finale aired on 23 June 2019.
Rupsa received the winner’s trophy and ₹15 lakh, while Nishant Bhat received ₹5 lakh as the winning Super Guru.
Super Dancer Season 4 Winner – Florina Gogoi
Super Dancer Chapter 4 premiered in 2021, after the programme had been away from television following Chapter 3.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Geeta Kapur and Anurag Basu returned to the judging panel. Rithvik Dhanjani and Paritosh Tripathi continued their association with the hosting duties.
The season featured 13 contestants in the main competition.
Florina Gogoi from Jorhat, Assam, emerged as the winner. Her Super Guru was Tushar Shetty.
Florina and Tushar became one of the most popular contestant-guru combinations of the season. They were often referred to together as “FloTus.”
Pruthviraj Kongari, mentored by Subhranil Paul, finished as runner-up.
Other leading finalists included Sanchit Chanana, Esha Mishra and Neerja Tiwari.
The grand finale, titled “Nachpan Ka Maha Mahotsav,” was held in October 2021.
Florina received the Super Dancer trophy and ₹15 lakh prize money, while Tushar Shetty was awarded ₹5 lakh.
Super Dancer Season 5 Winners – Sukriti Paul and Aadhyayasree Upadhyay
Super Dancer returned after a long gap with Chapter 5, which premiered on 19 July 2025 on Sony Entertainment Television.
The season brought an important change to the judging panel.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Geeta Kapur returned, while choreographer Marzi Pestonji joined them as a judge. He replaced Anurag Basu, who had judged the first four chapters.
Paritosh Tripathi continued as host.
The season featured 13 young contestants, each working with professional Super Gurus through the different stages of the competition.
The finale produced a result never previously seen on Super Dancer.
Sukriti Paul and Aadhyayasree Upadhyay were jointly declared the winners of Super Dancer Chapter 5.
Sukriti Paul was mentored by Anuradha Iyengar, while Aadhyayasree Upadhyay performed under the guidance of Pratiksha Sutar.
Aditi Jadhav finished as the runner-up. She was associated with Super Gurus Saumya Kamble and Vartika Jha during the competition.
Other finalists included Apsara Boro, Somansh Dangwal and Namish Gohil.
The two-part Maha Finale concluded on 12 October 2025.
Both Sukriti and Aadhyayasree received a ₹10 lakh cash prize each, along with winner trophies and additional gifts.
Their victory marked the first time two contestants were jointly crowned Super Dancer champions.
Super Dancer Judges Over the Years
The judging panel has been an important part of Super Dancer since its launch.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra
Shilpa Shetty Kundra has judged all five completed chapters of Super Dancer.
Apart from evaluating dance technique, she has frequently praised contestants for expressions, entertainment value and overall stage performance.
Geeta Kapur
Choreographer Geeta Kapur, popularly known as Geeta Maa, has also been part of the judging panel from the first season onward.
Her professional dance and choreography background allows her to focus on technique, choreography and the development of contestants.
Anurag Basu
Filmmaker Anurag Basu judged Super Dancer from Chapter 1 through Chapter 4.
His presence helped give the judging panel a combination of dance, cinema and entertainment perspectives.
Marzi Pestonji
Choreographer Marzi Pestonji joined Super Dancer in Chapter 5.
He became the third judge alongside Shilpa Shetty and Geeta Kapur following Anurag Basu’s departure from the judging panel.
Super Dancer Hosts Over the Years
Paritosh Tripathi has been one of the longest-serving presenters associated with Super Dancer and has appeared across all five chapters.
His comic character and interaction with contestants became an important part of the show’s entertainment element.
Rithvik Dhanjani was also closely associated with the first four seasons and handled major hosting responsibilities.
Jay Bhanushali appeared as a host during Chapter 2.
Chapter 5 primarily featured Paritosh Tripathi as the main host.
Super Dancer Super Gurus
One of the most important features of Super Dancer is the Super Guru system.
Each young contestant is paired with a professional choreographer. The Super Guru trains the child, prepares choreography and usually performs alongside the contestant during duet performances.

Super Dancer Format
Super Dancer is primarily a competition for young dancers.
The selection process begins with auditions followed by mega auditions. The strongest contestants are selected for the main televised competition.
Each child is then paired with a professional Super Guru.
Contestants perform individually as well as with their Super Gurus. The programme allows performers to explore several dance forms, including:
- Contemporary
- Hip-hop
- Classical
- Freestyle
- Popping
- Bollywood
- Folk
- Lyrical
- Fusion
The judges evaluate performances based on technique, choreography, expressions, creativity, confidence and overall presentation.
Audience voting has also played an important part in determining which contestants remain in the competition and who eventually wins the title.
The contestants gradually progress through elimination rounds until the strongest performers reach the grand finale.
Super Dancer and India’s Best Dancer
Super Dancer and India’s Best Dancer are separate Sony Entertainment Television dance competitions.
Super Dancer primarily focuses on children, while India’s Best Dancer is aimed at older dancers.
There is also an interesting connection between the two programmes because several Super Dancer contestants and choreographers have later appeared on India’s Best Dancer.
However, both shows maintain separate season numbering, formats and winner lists.
Final Words
Super Dancer has become an important platform for young Indian dancers since its launch in 2016.
Ditya Bhande became the first Super Dancer champion, followed by Bishal Sharma, Rupsa Batabyal and Florina Gogoi.
After a four-year gap between new chapters, the show returned with Chapter 5 in 2025 and created history by declaring Sukriti Paul and Aadhyayasree Upadhyay joint winners.
As of 2026, five chapters of Super Dancer have been completed, and Sukriti Paul and Aadhyayasree Upadhyay remain the latest champions after winning the Season 5 title on 12 October 2025.
