By Saurav Mehra Super Singer Junior is one of the most popular Tamil-language singing reality shows for children. Airing on Star Vijay, the programme provides young singers with an opportunity to showcase their vocal talent before leading playback singers, composers and music professionals.
Super Singer Junior began in 2007 as the junior version of the popular Super Singer franchise. The competition is generally open to talented children between the ages of 6 and 15. Over the years, several contestants have gone on to work as playback singers and performers after gaining recognition through the programme. Ten seasons have produced official title winners so far, while Season 11 is currently underway in 2026.

Super Singer Junior Season 1 Title Winner – Krishnamoorthy
The first season of Super Singer Junior premiered on 9 February 2007 on Star Vijay. Playback singer Chinmayi hosted the inaugural edition, while K. S. Chithra and Usha Uthup were among the main judges.
Around 25 young singers progressed to the main stage after the auditions.
Krishnamoorthy emerged as the first Super Singer Junior title winner after a closely contested finale.
Vignesh finished behind him, while Saicharan and Aparna Rajagopalan were also among the finalists.
The grand finale aired on 13 July 2007, establishing Super Singer Junior as a major children’s singing competition on Tamil television.
Super Singer Junior Season 2 Title Winner – Alka Ajith
Season 2 began in June 2009 and featured an extensive audition and competition process.
Different presenters appeared during the season, including Divyadarshini, Sivakarthikeyan and others. K. S. Chithra returned as a permanent judge and was joined by Mano and Malgudi Subha.
Alka Ajith emerged as the Season 2 title winner.
Shravan R. Pratap finished as the first runner-up and received a car as his prize.
The grand finale was telecast live on 17 June 2010. Alka received a villa valued at approximately ₹25 lakh as the winner’s prize.
Her success also helped her enter playback singing.
Super Singer Junior Season 3 Title Winner – Aajeedh Khalique
Super Singer Junior Season 3 premiered on 17 October 2011.
Ma Ka Pa Anand, Kalyani Nair and Bhavana Balakrishnan were associated with hosting the main competition rounds. K. S. Chithra, Mano and Malgudi Subha served as the permanent judges.
Aajeedh Khalique won the title after qualifying for the grand finale through the wildcard route.
Pragathi Guruprasad finished as the first runner-up.
The grand finale was held on 26 October 2012 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. A. R. Rahman appeared as a special guest and announced the final results.
Aajeedh received a three-bedroom townhouse as the major championship prize.
Super Singer Junior Season 4 Title Winner – Spoorthi Santosh Rao
Season 4 premiered on 31 March 2014.
Ma Ka Pa Anand, Priyanka Deshpande and Bhavana Balakrishnan hosted the competition. K. S. Chithra, Mano and Malgudi Subha returned as judges.
Young singer Spoorthi Santosh Rao emerged as the Season 4 title winner.
Jessica Judes finished as the first runner-up, while Haripriya secured the next position among the finalists.
The grand finale was held in Chennai on 20 February 2015.
Spoorthi received a townhouse valued at approximately ₹70 lakh, while Jessica received a major runner-up prize.
Super Singer Junior Season 5 Title Winner – Prithika
Super Singer Junior Season 5 aired from 26 November 2016 to 17 June 2017.
Ma Ka Pa Anand, Priyanka Deshpande and Bhavana Balakrishnan served as hosts. K. S. Chithra, Mano and Malgudi Subha were again part of the judging panel.
The finalists included Prithika, Bavin, Gowri, Monika and Dhanush.
Prithika won the Season 5 title.
Bavin finished as the first runner-up, while Gowri secured the second runner-up position.
The grand finale was held on 17 June 2017. Prithika received an apartment worth around ₹40 lakh as the winner’s prize.
Super Singer Junior Season 6 Title Winner – Hrithik
Season 6 ran from 20 October 2018 to 21 April 2019.
Ma Ka Pa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande hosted the programme. The judging panel included K. S. Chithra, Shankar Mahadevan, Kalpana Raghavendar and S. P. Charan.
The six finalists were Hrithik, Suriya, Poovaiyar, Chinmayi, Ahana and Anushya.
Hrithik emerged as the Super Singer Junior Season 6 title winner.
Suriya finished as the first runner-up, while popular young folk performer Poovaiyar secured the second runner-up position.
The grand finale was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on 21 April 2019.
Super Singer Junior Season 7 – No Title Winner
Season 7 premiered on 22 February 2020.
Ma Ka Pa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande returned as hosts. The judging panel included K. S. Chithra, Shankar Mahadevan, Kalpana Raghavendar and Nakul.
However, the season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Television production was disrupted as restrictions were introduced across India.
The competition was eventually discontinued without reaching a normal grand finale.
As a result, Super Singer Junior Season 7 has no official title winner or runner-up.
Super Singer Junior Season 8 Title Winner – Krishaang
Super Singer Junior returned with Season 8 on 19 December 2021.
Ma Ka Pa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande were the main hosts, with Myna Nandhini and KPY Kuraishi also appearing during periods when the regular presenters were unavailable.
- S. Chithra, S. P. Charan, Shankar Mahadevan and Kalpana Raghavendar formed the principal judging team.
Twenty contestants entered the main competition.
Krishaang won the Season 8 title.
Rihana finished as the first runner-up, while Neha secured the second runner-up position.
The grand finale aired on 26 June 2022.
Super Singer Junior Season 9 Title Winner – V. M. Shreenitha
Season 9 premiered on 8 July 2023 on Star Vijay.
Ma Ka Pa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande returned as hosts. K. S. Chithra, S. Thaman and Anthony Daasan formed the main judging panel.
The season eventually produced six finalists, and all six were girls, making the finale particularly notable in the history of the programme.
- M. Shreenitha emerged as the Season 9 title winner.
- Harshini Nethra finished as the first runner-up, while Akshara Lakshmi secured the second runner-up position.
The grand finale was held on 10 December 2023.
Super Singer Junior Season 10 Title Winner – Gayathri
Super Singer Junior Season 10 premiered on 16 November 2024.
Ma Ka Pa Anand and Priyanka Deshpande returned as the principal hosts, with other presenters appearing during the season. The judging panel consisted of K. S. Chithra, Mano and D. Imman.
Five contestants reached the grand finale: Gayathri, Nasreen, Sarasuruthi, Aadhya and Lynet.
Gayathri, from Theni, emerged as the Super Singer Junior Season 10 title winner.
Nasreen finished as the first runner-up.
Sarasuruthi and Aadhya shared the second runner-up position.
The grand finale was held on 25 May 2025 in Chennai. Kamal Haasan and A. R. Rahman were among the prominent guests present for the finale and award presentation.
Gayathri received the winner’s trophy along with a major property prize.
Super Singer Junior Season 11
Super Singer Junior Season 11 premiered on 9 May 2026 on Star Vijay.
The competition once again brings together talented young singers who progress through auditions before performing in the main televised rounds.
Season 11 has continued to air on weekends through August 2026. Recent episode promotions confirm that the competition is still underway.
Therefore, as of 28 August 2026, Super Singer Junior Season 11 does not yet have an officially declared title winner or runner-up.
The Season 11 winner should be added to the list only after the grand finale result is officially announced.
Super Singer Junior Hosts Over the Years
Several television personalities have hosted Super Singer Junior since its debut.
Chinmayi presented the first season. Different presenters, including Divyadarshini and Sivakarthikeyan, appeared during the second season.
From Season 3 onward, Ma Ka Pa Anand became one of the personalities most closely associated with the programme.
Bhavana Balakrishnan hosted several earlier editions, while Priyanka Deshpande became another regular presenter from the later seasons.
Their interaction with contestants, judges and families has remained an important part of the programme’s entertainment format.
Super Singer Junior Judges
Super Singer Junior has featured several prominent singers and composers as judges.
- S. Chithra has had one of the longest associations with the programme and has judged numerous seasons.
Other judges have included Usha Uthup, Mano, Malgudi Subha, Shankar Mahadevan, Kalpana Raghavendar, S. P. Charan, Anthony Daasan, S. Thaman and D. Imman.
The programme has also regularly welcomed leading playback singers, composers and film personalities as special guests.
Super Singer Junior Format
Super Singer Junior is designed for talented young singers, generally in the 6 to 15 age group.
The programme begins with auditions where children perform before music professionals. Selected singers progress through several rounds before reaching the main competition.
Contestants perform different types of music, including Tamil film songs, classical compositions, folk music, melody and contemporary numbers.
Judges evaluate performances based on singing ability, pitch, expression, voice quality, versatility and overall presentation.
The programme also uses elimination rounds and wildcard opportunities. Audience voting has played an important role in deciding finalists and title winners in several seasons.
Super Singer Junior and Super Singer
Super Singer Junior and the regular Super Singer programme belong to the same television franchise but are separate competitions.
Super Singer Junior is primarily for children, while the regular Super Singer programme features older contestants.
Both programmes have separate season numbering and separate winners. Therefore, winners such as Nikhil Mathew, Senthil Ganesh or Nikhil from the regular Super Singer series should not be included in the Super Singer Junior title winners list.
Final Words
Super Singer Junior has helped discover young Tamil singing talent since its debut in 2007.
Krishnamoorthy became the first title winner, followed by Alka Ajith, Aajeedh Khalique, Spoorthi Santosh Rao, Prithika, Hrithik, Krishaang, V. M. Shreenitha and Gayathri.
Season 7 ended without a winner because the competition was discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gayathri is the latest officially crowned Super Singer Junior title winner, having won Season 10 on 25 May 2025. Season 11 is currently underway in 2026, and its winner will be added after the competition reaches its grand finale.
